| In the over 30 years long history of advertising at Frankfurt
Main Airport, showcases have always played an important part of Media Frankfurt's
range of advertising opportunities. Namely the concessionaires at the airport
have always appreciated the showcases to expand their shop fronts since
showcases offer the occasion to present products in real and to passengers
who would not necessary pass the point of sales of the displayed products
on their way through the airport.
After more than 30 years it became time for Media Frankfurt to replace
the existing showcases by new ones and to develop a new type of showcase
that would inherit the positive features and at the same time eliminate
the weak points of the old showcases discovered over the years. Thus the
challenge was to combine the qualities of high transparency of this advertising
unit and it's 3-dimensional space with a maximum of robustness for the
use in unique locations while maintaining the highest design standards
of Media Frankfurt.
The showcases' edges have been replaced by curved glass areas. This permitted
installation of the units in the middle of traffic streams in the passenger
facilities. The base and top of the showcases were changed to a slim height
of 65 mm. At the same time, the base was re-designed to prevent damages
from trolleys and cleaning carts. Power supply, illumination and the mechanisms
that open and close the showcases have been completely new developed.
Only authentic materials such as glass and polished high grade steal have
been used in the making of the new showcases to guarantee maintenance
free and long life circle.
The new basic form of two semi circles at both ends of a rectangle caused
problems to which no solutions had been available until then. In addition
the new design resulted in parts that not every supplier of Media Frankfurt
was able to deliver in the required high quality. This included the semi
circle glass pieces with a height of 2 meters as well as the ultra-stable
base made of high grade steel. The construction of the hidden, electro-driven
opening mechanism of the showcase doors became another challenge.
The Leipzig based company museal became the ideal partner for Media Frankfurt
to develop the various technical and mechanical solutions that accompanied
the making of this new showcase. Museal delivered a number of engineering
masterpieces during the whole process of the development and construction
of the new showcases. The technical conversion and production of the showcases
were with museal in best hands.
